Red Horse Products: Natural, Practical Horse Care from Hoof to Skin

Looking after a horse involves countless small decisions, from maintaining healthy hooves to managing everyday skin concerns. Red Horse Products has built its range around one simple idea: create effective products that support healthy tissue while avoiding unnecessarily harsh ingredients.

Founded in 2006, Red Horse Products began with a very practical problem. The company’s early products, including HoneyHeel and Hoof-Stuff, were developed after existing products failed to help two horses experiencing hoof and skin problems. The results prompted word-of-mouth interest from other horse owners, eventually leading to the creation of the Red Horse Products business.

Today, the company offers specialist products covering hoof care, skin care and joint support, with its range used by horse owners and equine professionals in the UK and internationally.

A focus on natural ingredients

A defining part of the Red Horse approach is its emphasis on carefully selected ingredients. The company says it chooses ingredients for their quality, safety and effectiveness, rather than cutting costs. Its ingredient list includes substances such as aloe vera, beeswax, bio-active honey, green French clay, hemp oil, lavender oil, lemon oil and MSM, among others.

Red Horse also says that it deliberately avoids the caustic ingredients and bulky fillers commonly found in some mass-market horse-care products. Instead, the company focuses on formulations intended to be effective while being kind to equine tissue.

Hoof care at the heart of the range

Hoof health is one of Red Horse Products’ key areas of expertise. Its hoof-care collection includes Artimud, Hoof-Stuff, Field Paste, Sole Cleanse, Sole Paint, HydroHoof and Stronghorn, alongside tools and care kits.

Artimud

Artimud is a clay-based hoof putty designed for shallow gaps and cracks. According to Red Horse, its thick consistency helps it remain in place while its naturally active ingredients cleanse the area and support healthy tissue.

The product is particularly suited to shallow white-line crevices, frog clefts and external cracks and can also be used under pads and stick-on shoes. Its formulation includes green French clay, honey, natural minerals and essential oils.

Hoof-Stuff

For deeper cavities and cracks, Red Horse offers Hoof-Stuff, a fibrous hoof-packing material. The product combines natural fibres with active ingredients designed to stay in contact with the hoof tissue.

Red Horse describes it as suitable for areas including white-line cracks, central sulcus separation, cavities and grass cracks. The company recommends professional guidance for deeper cavities or abscess tracts.

Field Paste

Field Paste is a cleansing clay dressing designed for the underside of the horse’s foot. Its thick consistency allows it to remain in the grooves of the frog and sole longer than thinner products.

Red Horse says it helps cleanse and condition the foot while supporting strong, healthy frogs and soles. The formulation includes a natural clay blend, honey, minerals and essential oils.

Skin care for everyday equine challenges

Red Horse’s skin-care range is designed to address common issues ranging from itchy skin to minor wounds. Products include HoneyHeel, Sweet Oil, Ear Balm, Red Zone, RZ Summer Spray and Sarclay.

HoneyHeel

One of the company’s original products, HoneyHeel, is a honey-based barrier cream. Red Horse describes it as a product developed to support healthy tissue and provide a protective barrier.

Its formulation includes ingredients such as honey, natural minerals and aloe vera, reflecting the company’s broader emphasis on naturally derived ingredients.

Sweet Oil

Sweet Oil is another established product in the range, developed as a moisturising and soothing application for irritated or dry areas of skin. Red Horse’s broader skin-care philosophy is centred on products that are gentle, effective and straightforward to use.
