Bathing Your Horse

Bathing your horse

When the sun is shining I like nothing more than giving my horse a lovely bath to wash away all the dust and residue that gets in her coat. Carr & Day & Martin are renowned for their popular Gallop range of horse shampoo.

Gallop Colour Horse Shampoo

A gimmick you may ask? Not at all, choosing a shampoo to suit your horse’s colour tone simply means you are using a product to bring out their natural tones in their coat giving them that added sparkle. Getting an exact match for your horses coat colour is not essential as all these shampoo’s have similar ingredients to clean and intensify natural coat colour and sheen.

Gallop Colour ShampooThe range has four options available for greys, for bays, for chestnut and palomino and for black horses.

Application :

Apply directly to a wet coat. Work in well with a brush or sponge or by hand to produce a rich lather, then rinse thoroughly. Results are immediate. May also be used on manes and tails.

This is definitely my go to shampoo as it is easy to use, forms a nice lather without too many bubbles but enough to feel you have given your horse a nice scrub! The smell is very pleasant and once rinsed it doesn’t leave any residues.

Gallop Specialist Shampoo’s

When you are looking for a horse shampoo for aspecific task then look no further than the Gallop range.

Gallop Medicated Shampoo

Gallop Medicated Shampoo is a high specification formula ideal for dry, flaky, itchy, scurfy and sensitive skin. Soothes and calms irritated, sore, damaged and sensitive skin. The pH neutral formula contains natural oils that helps soften and lift scabs and dandruff. Provides exceptional conditioning, noticeably softer hair and a shiny coat.

I tried this on my mare who had flaky areas on her legs after she shed her winter coat, one wash and it was almost all cleared up. A handy shampoo to have in your wash kit especially for the back legs.

Application For routine use: Apply directly to a wet coat or dilute 5-10 squirts in a bucket of water. Work in well with a brush, sponge or by hand to produce a good lather, then rinse thoroughly. For use on skin conditions, leave in contact with the skin for 5 minutes to allow the shampoo to cleanse. Rinse thoroughly paying attention to affected areas.

Gallop Conditioning Shampoo

Gallop Conditioning Shampoo has a distinctive, traditional aroma that removes dirt, sweat and grease from the coat and is suitable for routine use. Thanks to the low foaming formula, it is quick to use and easy to rinse. A good choice for routine bathing throughout the seasons.

Gallop Extra Strength Shampoo

Powerful cleaning for dirty, greasy or light coloured coats, Gallop Extra Strength Shampoo is an extra thick shampoo with double the level of active ingredients for superior cleaning. Great for really dirty, greasy or light coloured horses, or the first wash of the year to leave the coat clean and shiny. Please note this product contains camphor; allow a withdrawal period of 24 hours prior to competing under BHA and FEI rules.

Gallop Stain Removing Shampoo

We loves this for grey horses and those with white socks that are not so white anymore! A super powerful stain removing shampoo for stubborn ingrained stains.

Gallop Stain Removing Shampoo is an extra thick, concentrated, purple formula with powerful stain removing properties to enable you to remove the most stubborn and ingrained grass and stable stains. Ideal for light coloured horses and problem areas such as knees and hocks. Cleans whiter than white – even removes manure yellowing, yet still kind on sensitive skin. Products for added sparkle

When you are looking for extra sparkle in your horses grooming routine then these are my two must have products.

Dream Coat the Ultimate Coat Finish

‘The only non-slip coat shine on the market’.

As an owner of a native pony I find I require the help of detanglers and coat shine to keep my horse looking good with tangle free mane. One of the main problems I have with this is by using these type of products generally my reins end up too slippery to hold and the saddle slides all over the place. So I was keen to try Dream Coat and all I can say is WOW it actually works. A nice shiny coat, no residue and more importantly it is a non-slip finish. I have also used this on my other horse and been able to plait her mane the day after with no issues.

Canter Mane & Tail Conditioning Spray

Canter Mane & Tail Spray has always been my go to product as a detangler spray. I have strayed in the past and nothing meets the superior qualities of this product. I simply wash my horses tail, spray sparingly, allow to dry and then comb out with minimal need to detangle. One happy horse with a lovely full tail ready for fly swatting or show ring perfection.
