Which Clippers are Quiet?

A common question amongst horse owners – which clipper is the quietest to use? We take a look at the clippers on the market to see which ones are quieter and what to look for.

What makes a clipper quiet?

Generally speaking the clipper motor is not the main cause of noise, it is the blades and the vibrations caused by the blades which cause the noise.

Which blades are quieter?

A clip on blade will be quieter than the blades which attach using a pin with spring tension nut.

Battery or Mains Powered?

Mains powered clippers are the most noisy as they always have a blade you have to tension. These blades are more heavy duty so best for hairy/dirtier coats, thick native/cob coats as well as people wanting to clip a lot in one day. The cutting speed is quicker so these work better for a professional clipper or comeone clipping a large yard.

Cordless clippers are perfect for a more nervous horse as they tend to have a clip on blade (except the Lister Eclipse Clipper), they are smaller and easier to use for novice clippers. Also it is safer to not have a mains lead on the floor where the horse could jump on it.
